What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include local storage and tracking pixels. Some are needed for a site to work; others help the owner understand how the site is used. Cookies that are not strictly necessary are only set with your consent.
Cookies we use
Strictly necessary
Ordinary visitors browsing and reading the site do not receive WordPress cookies. WordPress sets login and session cookies (such as wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_* and wp-settings-*) only for site administrators who sign in. If we show a cookie consent banner, it stores your choice in a small cookie so we do not ask again on every page. These cookies do not need consent.
Privacy-friendly analytics (no cookies)
We use Umami, a self-hosted analytics tool, to count page views and see which patterns and guides are popular. Umami does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites and does not store your IP address in a way that identifies you. The data stays on our own server.
Optional analytics (only with consent)
If we enable Google Analytics 4, it will only load after you accept analytics cookies. It sets cookies such as _ga and _ga_*, which last up to two years and help us understand how visitors move around the site. Google processes this data under its own privacy terms. You can withdraw consent at any time through the cookie settings link on the site or by clearing your cookies.
Third-party services you choose to use
- Gumroad checkout: when you open a Gumroad product page or checkout to buy a product, Gumroad and its payment partners set their own cookies to process the purchase securely and prevent fraud.
- Affiliate links: when you click a link to a retailer, that retailer may set cookies on its own website to record that you came from us. These cookies are set on the retailer’s site, not ours.
- Embedded content: if a post includes an embedded video or social media post, the provider (for example YouTube or Pinterest) may set cookies when the embed loads or when you interact with it.
Email tracking
Newsletter emails sent through our Mautic system may contain a tracking pixel and tracked links that record opens and clicks. This is not a cookie on our website, and you can block it by disabling automatic image loading in your email program.
How to control cookies
You can accept or reject optional cookies in our cookie banner when it is shown, and change your choice later. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
